Get drunk faster if you drink wine in the sun?

You've probably sat on a terrace in the sun, and after 1 or 2 glasses of wine you walked to the toilet and thought: I can feel it now. You're definitely not the only one, because when you drink wine while sitting in the sun, you do indeed get drunk faster. In this blog we explain exactly why that is.

Women who drink

1. Dehydration

Huh? But I drink fluids, right? Yes, that's right, but alcohol has a dehydrating effect. If you are dehydrated, alcohol has a stronger effect. In addition, you lose extra moisture in the sun through sweating, which makes the effect even greater. So always drink sensibly and make sure you drink enough water.

2. Faster absorption of alcohol

In warm weather, your blood vessels dilate, allowing alcohol to be absorbed into the bloodstream more quickly. This ensures that the alcohol takes effect more quickly.

3. Eat less

In warmer weather, you often have less appetite, which means your stomach is less full. Alcohol is absorbed faster when your stomach is empty. So make sure those snacks are replenished regularly!

4. Tiring sun

It's hot, you feel listless and tired. This, combined with a glass of wine, can make your body less able to withstand the effects of alcohol. In short, you get drunk faster.

All these reasons explain why, after 1 or 2 glasses of wine, you look at yourself in the mirror on the toilet and say: "I can feel it already." Marwijn therefore recommends drinking enough water, eating well, seeking shade every now and then and - perhaps most importantly - drinking responsibly.
